VGP – As of December 2013, Viet Nam has had more than 216,250 HIV-infected people, of whom 66,530 have developed AIDS and 68,980 died of AIDS.
In the first 11 months of 2013, 11.567 new HIV carriers were found,down 15% compared to the same period in 2011; 5,493 ones developed AIDS, down 16% and 2.097 people died of AIDS, down 2%.
Provinces and cities with high number of new HIV-infected people include Ho Chi Minh City (1,736 ones), Ha Noi (738 ones), Dong Nai Province (385 ones) and Thai Nguyen Province (353 ones).
People living with HIV found in 2013 aged between 20-39, accounting for 79%.
Total expenditure for HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities in 2013 reached VND1,376 billion.
The amount for 2014 remains only VND862 billion, of which VND83 billion comes from the national target programs.
In 2014, the health sector will paid due attention to mountainous areas and ethnic minorities, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.
