The HCM City People’s Committee reported the city attracted 15 new foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the first month of this year, a year-on-year increase of 15.4 per cent. The total registered capital reached US$19.9 million, a rise of 51.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. Two projects asked for additional of capital, worth $3.3 million.

Vocational training facilities upgraded
The Vocational Training Office aims to upgrade the facilities of 1,465 vocational training colleges and schools nationwide in 2014. The work aims to attract more students and qualified teachers and is expected to provide vocational training for 1.8 million people. In 2013, 1.7 million people received vocational training.

Viet Nam, Laos step up education exchange
According to a project aimed at developing educational and human resources between Viet Nam and Laos, Viet Nam will welcome 405 Lao officials and students to study in the country. They are specialists in education, economics, culture and science.
Laos will provide 53 scholarships to Vietnamese officials and students for graduate and post-graduate programmes.

16,000 firms violate food safety rules
The Food Hygiene and Safety Department has announced that they found more than 16,000 enterprises violating regulations on food hygiene and safety during the Lunar New Year.
The violations included poor sanitation, unsafe equipment, and workers who did not have any knowledge on food hygiene as well as medical incidents.
