A lonely man in HCM City has a face full of small, dense tumours faces the risk of going blind and is calling for the community’s help.
Selling lottery tickets
Hoang Thanh Tuan, 33 years old, born in the province of Quang Binh, was born with one small turmour on his cheek which gradually spread to his whole face, Apart from the other effects of his condition, it has seriously impacted his social life. Children near him call him, “the strange guy”.
Despite poverty, his parents brought him to a number of hospitals for treatment. He got three surgeries, but the situation did not improve. Now, his entire body is covered with small turmours.
To ease the financial burden on the family, he left home for HCM City to earn living in hopes of earning money for the treatment by selling lottery tickets. Over the past few years his eyesight has deteriorated.
Dense tumours on Tuan’s body make him feel uncomfortable all the time, especially on sunny days.

His family in Quang Binh Province is very poor, and cannot count on them for financial help. His sisters and brothers advised him to return his hometown, but he does not want to add to his parents’ burden. Recent storms damaged his house but he can’t do anything to help his parents.
His only “friend” is the old radio. Whenever he gets back home, he opens it and played his favourite songs by the musician Trinh Cong Son and tells himself to try to overcome difficulties and challenges.
