The event, the biggest and most prestigious such tour in Vietnam, attracts 91 chess players from 16 nations and territories, in which the host sees 58 players (18 grand masters and 26 masters).


In the men’s category, chess lovers will have the chance to witness the strong competition between present champion Le Quang Liem, 23, (Elo 2,709), following are Chinese player Ni Hua (Elo 2,658), winner of 2012′s event, and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son from Vietnam (Elo 2,613).


Le Quang Liem, who is being trained in US’s Webster University, has been asking for one week off to return home for the competition.


He took part all the three previous events, however, just winning one time in 2013. His Chinese rivals won twice.


The capital Hanoi contributes the players Bui Vinh, Nguyen Van Huy, Tran Minh Tuan and Le Minh Tuan.


The winner will pocket a USD12,000 prize in cash, while the runner-ups will receive USD5,000 and USD3,000 respectively, of the total prizes of USD35,000.


In the women’s category, Vietnam sends its strongest players like Pham Le Thao Nguyen (3rd seed, Elo 2,349), Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Hoang Thi Nhu Y, Vo Thi Kim Phung and Nguyen Thi Thien Kim. Their rivals are Kashlinskaya Alinna (Russia, Elo 2,440, 1st seed), Subbaraman from India (Elo 2,365, 2nd seed) and current champion Khariaman (Indonesia, Elo 2,343, 4th seed)./.
