Recently, Chairman of the Quang Ngai PPC has just approved the indicator set of monitoring and evaluating the rural water and sanitation in 2013.
This set of criteria showed that the results of clean water, sanitary latrines in schools and commune health stations were very low.
According to the above indicators, the percentage of the rural population using clean water in 2013 was 79.6 % (equal to 894,363/1,123,714 persons), the number of rural households using latrines was 77.2 %, in which, sanitary latrines was 59.5%.
Proportion of schools using clean water and sanitary latrines was 52.5% (equal to 709/1,351 schools). However, schools using clean water only reached 11.7%, in particular, the proportion of schools using latrines accounted for only 4.3% (58/1,351 schools).
The indicator set also showed that the rate of commune health stations (CHS) using water and sanitary latrines was 83.5% (147/176 stations), the ratio of CHSs using clean water was very low 2.8% (5/176 stations) and the ratio of CHSs using sanitary latrines was only 7.4% (13/176 stations).
Chairman asked the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with relevant departments, People’s Committees of districts and the city to build the medium and long-term detailed plans on clean water and environmental sanitation in localities to advise the PPC for seeking appropriate solutions to improve them in the next time.
