Four teachers and education officials in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap were today seriously injured on faces after they were attacked with acid by another teacher who is under disciplinary consideration for his violation.
The suspect was identified and arrested soon after the attack. He is Pham Minh Tien, teacher of the junior high school Tan Phu in Thanh Binh District, said the district's People's Committee chairman Nguyen Van Na.
At 4:00pm today, Tien rode a motorbike to the Department of Education of Thanh Binh District. He went upstairs to the working room of the department chief Do Phuoc Vinh, threw a mug of acid on his face, and ran away.
Tien faced Dinh Van Can, deputy chief of the department, on the way and splashed acid at the official.
Driving to the primary school Thanh Binh, 1,5km from the education department, Tien continued to attack headmaster Nguyen Van Chien and female teacher Nguyen Thi Minh Trang with acid.
All the four victims were seriously damaged on faces, Na said.
Police arrested the suspect and are investigating the case.
