The government has extended the deadline by five years for overseas Vietnamese to register for citizenship.
The new deadline is July 1, 2019. The new law will be presented in the coming National Assembly working session.
The government will also be extending the application deadline for any Vietnamese seeking residency in large cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Can Tho City, and Da Nang City. They must satisfy requested requirements: they must be accommodated by the host organization and be living at that place for over a year.
Applicants must already have temporary residency in order to apply for permanent residency.
