Japanese rice varieties DS1, Akita Komachi and Hananomai are growing well in the fields in the districts of Tay Hoa, Dong Hoa and Song Hinh. This is the first crop producing good-quality seed, through which suitable seed is going to be selected for the mass production of Tuy Hoa’s high quality rice-paddy brand.
The field with 3,000m2-width of Hoa Thanh Tay Cooperative of Agriculture-Service Trading, Dong Hoa district (Hoa Thanh Tay Cooperative) has grown Japanese rice varieties. Mr. Nguyen Phuoc, Director of Hoa Thanh Tay Cooperative, lets known: “This year, the crop stands adverse weather conditions with cold nights, sunny dasy, causing prolonged growth period. However, with the first trial of planting Japansed varieties, during the crop, there has not been any epidemics, the good signal is fresh green leaves, same big seed, which shows that the variety is suitable to withstand the locality’s harsh weather”.
Not only in delta areas, but Japanese rice is also planted in the field of Duc Binh Tay commune in Song Hinh mountainous district. For the first time, people here have applied advanced techniques of row sowing, sowing, planting rice-variety imported from foreign countries to produce as the model of large sample field. Mr. Nguyen Khac Su, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Division in Song Hinh district, lets known, during the winter-spring crop of 2013-2014, Song Hinh district put into the trial production of 3,000m2 rice-variety from Japan. Growing well, the rice is in the red-tailed maturity, estimated yield is 80 kg/ha. This rice varieties have been produced under the large sample field model, seeds and fertilizers were supported by Vina Hoang Long Limited Company of Manufacturing – Trading (Hoa Hiep Industrial Zone), farming technique has been guided by the disitrict’s Extension Center of Agriculture – Forestry.
According to Dr. Hoang Kim, a lecturer from University of Agriculture and Forestry in Ho Chi Minh City, recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry, have conducted inspecting the model of producing rice derived from Japan in the fields of Dong Hoa district and Tay Hoa district. The inspection showed that all the rice has flowered, yield is estimated at between 75 quintals and 82 quintals/ha. These varieties are popular with the world market; therefore, in the coming time, after successful testing, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development should expand the planting area. In addition, through this model, farmers are guided to apply new scientific techniques, gradually deleting outdated farming custom in order to bring about production efficiency, revenue improvements, contribute to completing the criteria for building new rural areas.
