Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi al experienced over 70 adult patients infected with measles. Adults are prone to have complications such as encephalitis from the disease.
The infection has spread to 61 provinces with 8,521 questionable cases. Most have not been properly vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health. There have been 112 deaths due to complications from the disease since 2013. There are currently 105 facilities reporting patients with measles nationwide including Central Pediatrics Hospital, Bach Mai, Central Tropical Diseases Hospital, and Yen Bai General Hospital.
Autopsies revealed that three viruses and a bacterial infection on a child caused death, said Director of the Central Pediatrics Hospital Professor Le Thanh Hai.
The Prime Minister is requiring Central Pediatrics Hospital, Thanh Nhan, and Dong Da Hospitals to have ventilators.
VND 80.8 billion (US $3.8 million) will be allocated to supply medical equipment to hospitals. The ministry previously provided hospitals in Hanoi with 30 breathing machines.
