The Ministry of Health ordered departments to set up separate sections for patients with measles in hospitals.
Local hospitals are required to keep new and existing patients with measles in special areas in the hospital rather than transferring to larger hospitals in order to quarantine infections.
These quarantined sections will have warning signs and be regularly disinfected. Parents and caretakers of sick children will receive information on how to prevent transmission. People found infected are urged to quarantine themselves in order to curb transmission.
Vaccinations will be disbursed, 95 percent of young children in the country will be vaccinated in April.
There are currently 3,126 patients infected with measles nationwide according to the ministry. The infection has spread to 63 provinces and cities nationwide with 112 reported deaths since December 2013. Most patients are children under 10 years old without proper vaccinations. Overcrowding in large hospitals also spread the disease at a faster rate.
The ministry and government have not declared the spread of infection an epidemic.
The country will announce the epidemic when the Prime Minister agrees, said Tran Dac Phu, head of the Health Ministry’s Department of Preventive Health.
This is the largest outbreak in years, according to the Prime Minister’s decision. Two or more provinces must declare fast transmission in order for the ministry to declare the event an epidemic.
The World Health Organization warns parents of small children nine to 24 months old to get proper vaccinations. If children experience any symptoms, keep them at local clinics rather than large hospitals.
