Agencies and localities across the country are continuing to give support to fishermen to mitigate difficulties and encourage them to fish offshore.
On May 27th, the fund for fishermen assistance of the central province of Quang Ngai worked with Dan tri (People’s Knowledge) newspaper to grant VND75 million to 5 fishermen in Ly Son Island District whose boat was rammed and destroyed by a Chinese ship when they were fishing on Vietnam’s Paracel Archipelago.
In the central province of Quang Nam, to encourage fishermen to exploit seafood resources and to thereby protect the nation’s sea and island sovereignty, donation campaigns have been held to assist fishermen involved in long-day offshore fishing.
In Dai Loc District, the district women’s union, the district confederation of labour, the district police, the district youth union, veterans’ association, farmers’ association and Buddhist shangha mobilised over VND300 million to assist fishermen to buy additional fishing nets and tools, materials and fuel for fishing.
Meanwhile, enterprises were encouraged to assist fishermen with VND350 million. The provincial confederation of labour worked with the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) to give 160 presents to fishermen in Duy Hai and Duy Nghia communes in Duy Xuyen District and 500 presents to those in Binh Minh and Binh Duong communes in Thang Binh District. Each present is valued at VND500,000.
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) donated VND500 million to the campaign “Joining hands to protect the sea and island sovereignty“. The money was presented to disadvantaged fishermen and those whose boats were attacked by Chinese ships.
On this occasion, EVN trade union visited and gave presents worth VND30 million to disadvantaged fishermen’s families in Ly Son Island districts./.
