“Green gold” on Tua Chua plateau

Source: Pano feed

Tea has been described as “green gold” bringing prosperous life to the H’Mong ethnic minority group on the harsh stone plateau of Tua Chua district, the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien.

Known as Shan Tuyet tea, it is a precious grade of tea which is grown naturally with no use of chemicals. Therefore, it is famous for its health inducing qualities.

In winter, on the high mountains, when frost covers the trees, it does not seem as though the tea can survive. However, when spring comes, the trees sprout again.

One characteristic that makes the tea unique is that, when growing on mountains at a height of thousands of metres, after being processed, a layer of pollen which looks like snow is left behind.
