The Prime Minister has issued a working program of the central steering committee on building new style rural areas. The target is to help 600-700 communes to achieve the standards of the program by the end of this year.
The program aims to choose the most important criteria which indicate the success of the program on building new style rural areas, including; criteria on average income per capita, criteria on the number of labourers who maintain stable jobs, criteria on poverty reduction, and criteria on irrigation and traffic systems.
In terms of infrastructure construction, in 2014, the program will focus on developing essential infrastructure installations at the village and communal levels. This will be combined with developing production and improving people’s daily lives. The construction of irrigation, traffic, electricity and safe water installations is to be based on maximizing benefit by identifying the needs of each commune.
Under the program, the steering committee will expand the successful models in building new style rural areas. Improvements will be carried out to the quality of planning work, including planning of irrigation, traffic and infrastructure systems, planning on production development, and planning on environmental protection.
In 2014, the steering committee will also instruct each commune to build at least 1-2 projects of producing commodities that are agricultural products./.
