(CPV) – The EU Blue Book 2014 edition was launched in Hanoi on June 25, offering a snapshot of the latest policy developments, aid volumes and areas of cooperation between the European Union and Vietnam in 2013. The EU and its member states remained the biggest ODA donor worldwide in 2013, by disbursing EUR56.5 billion (USD76.8 billion), representing more than half of the total global aid. It registered a 2.4% increase in global aid compared with 2012 levels demonstrating the Union’s engagement to its 2005 commitment to poverty reduction and inclusive growth. In Vietnam, the EU disbursed EUR456 million (USD619,8 million) in 2013 and committed another EUR542 million (USD736,7 million) for 2014. Data analysis of 2007 to 2014 commitments shows that despite the global economic crisis, the EU ensured a similar level of financial engagement to Vietnam, proving the importance of the relationship between EU and Vietnam. “The bilateral assistance that the EU and its member states allocated to Vietnam over the past 20 years has helped this country to achieve its overall objectives of poverty reduction, socio-economic development and of further integration into the regional and world’s economy. The EU remains firmly committed to support Vietnam’s development, trade ambitions and international commitments by maintaining important levels of aid for the next coming years, signing an FTA before the end 2014 and intensifying our political relations”, said Dr Franz Jessen, Ambassador-Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam.
