New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Mr Haike Manning is paying a visit to Nghe An province on June 25-26.

During his visit, Mr Ambassador will explore opportunities to enhance the trade, education, and disaster management links between New Zealand and the province.

Since 2012, New Zealand has implemented a 3-year NZ$2.5 million project focused on developing and piloting a prototype system for dam and disaster management based on New Zealand best practice developed from public and private sector experience. This system will be rolled out across Vietnam. The project is a three way strategic partnership between New Zealand Crown Research Institute GNS Science, New Zealand engineering company Damwatch, and the Ha Noi Water Resources University. It is being carried out in the Hieu River catchments in Nghe An province – a major tributary of the Ca river, the third largest river in the nation.

Another interesting link between New Zealand and Nghe An is through TH True Milk – thousands of cows from New Zealand were imported to Nghe An for dairy farming purposes by TH True Milk.

“This is my first visit to Nghe An, and I am looking forward to fruitful discussions with the province’s leaders and business community to build committed partnerships between New Zealand and Nghe An. Links between the New Zealand Embassy and Vietnam’s provinces are an important part of the overall bilateral relationship between our two countries and I hope that this visit will provide real opportunities for further expansion of the relationship in anticipation of the anniversary of 40 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries in 2015″, said Mr Haike Manning.

Besides, he is going to meet with Chairman of People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong and Party Secretary Ho Duc Phoc as well as leaders from Vinh University to discuss the opportunities for ties between New Zealand and Nghe An.

Ambassador Manning will also undertake field trips to TH True Milk factory and the New Zealand aid programme funded project site in Nghia Dan district./.
