China was the largest importer of the region’s rice, accounting for 78% of the total and posting a year-on-year increase of 5%.

Exports to the Philippines rose fourfold compared to the same period last year and to the Middle East up 126%.

These achievements were attributed to the enhanced marketing activities in Asia and the Middle East.

Regional rice exporters still maintained their good turnover from traditional markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ghana, Cuba, Russia, Timor Lester, Algeria, Hong Kong, Singapore, Haiti and Mexico.

An Giang, Tien Giang, Soc Trang and Can Tho city have been expanding high-tech rice production models to raise the competitiveness of the grain.
