Young doctors participating in the project to bring volunteer doctors to

mountainous, remote, border and island regions will benefit from preferential policies.

The information was released by Pham Van Tac, Head of the Department of Organization and Personnel under the Ministry of Health, at a seminar for implementation of the project, which took place in the central city of Hue on June 16.

The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Health and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Mr Tac said that young volunteer doctors participating in the project will be enrolled to work in hospitals under the Ministry of Health before taking part in free training courses on professional faculties required by localities. They will be given priority in policies on salary, preferential allowances, policies according to the common regulations of the Ministry of Health, allowances and rights according to regulations for civil servants, and preferential policies according to localities.

After completing the volunteer time, they will be given priority benchmarking for professional training courses. They will also receive continuing salary payment and additional income allowances in line with other civil servants during study time.

The project was launched by the Ministry of Health in February to improve the quality of healthcare services in disadvantaged localities and to help to update obsolete practices. It also addresses the imbalance of human resources between regions and relieves the strain that overcrowding has on provincial and central hospitals.

Doctors who have just graduated or those working outside the medical profession are eligible for the project.

About 500 doctors are expected to be sent to the localities between 2013 and 2016. Male doctors are asked to work for at least five years and females for at least four./.
