Minh mashes his way into US Open quarter-finals

(VOV) – Defending champion Nguyen Tien Minh on July 10 summarily defeated Taiwanese rival Chia-Hsin Wan in two straight sets, earning a berth in the quarter-finals of the 2014 US YONEX Open Badminton Championships.


In the first set, the match got off to an even start and was balanced 7-7 initially. However, Minh came on strong to handily defeat Wan with a score of 21-13.


The Vietnamese star player went on to dominate the second set with scores of 4-0, 13-7, and 21-7.


After only 28 minutes of play, Minh (10th in the world’s ranking list) defeated Chia-Hsin Wan (84th in the world’s ranking list) 2-0.



In the quarter-finals, Minh (seeded No.1 at the tournament) will face Thai rival Suppanyu Avihingsanon (seeded No. 9).


The 2014 US YONEX Open Badminton Championships belongs to Grand Prix Gold system of Badminton World Federation (BWF) with total prize money of US$120,000.
