Due to the lengthened hot sunny days during consecutive months, nearly 10,000ha of summer-autumn crop in Phu Yen province lacks water or suffers from drought; among which the area that requires irrigation is estimated at 3,500ha, the area being capable of being pumped for preventing drought is about 6,500ha. As for the irrigation area of Dong Cam Company Ltd.’s management, there is over 4,100ha, mainly located at the end of the channel system. To recover the drought situation, the Company monitors and moderates water in an economical way in the entire hydraulics system, including Dong Cam dam and large reservoirs in the province. The province also mobilizes 20 pumping machines whose capacity is 1,000m³/hour to get water from river to complement the irrigation supply; coordinating with the agricultural cooperatives to dig 28 wells and place 20 minor-capacity pumping machines to gain water from ponds so as to save the rice plants.
The districts of Song Hinh, Son Hoa, Tay Hoa and Tuy An…have mobilized hundred of pumping machines to gain water from rivers, streams for irrigation. The agricultural cooperatives have also adjusted and moderated the water from each place and region to prevent droughts, mobilize farmers to dredge the channel, self dig wells in parallel with buying small pumping machines to directly fetch water to the rice paddy fields.
In the mountainous districts of Dong Xuan, 22 water pumping machines have been mobilized from CaiRiver, pumping for nearly 900ha among the 1,047ha of summer-fall crop. Besides, Phu Yen fishermen have transferred nearly 1,000ha of rice producing land in the upper area or those far from the irrigation system into planting other plants like corn, melon, peas…
