(VOV) – Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam overwhelmed Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan (China) in a final match of the US Open Badminton Championship in New York on July 13 (local time), defending his title.
The first game saw both Minh and Chou enter a race in which the Taiwanese player made an impressive start, widening the gap at 13-6 at a time.
Minh fought back hard, narrowing the gap at 19-19 and scoring the two decisive points in the last minutes, ending it 21-19.
After the interval, both players entered the second game more confidently, but it was Chou who outclassed Minh 21-14 in a tense service.
In the last game, Minh controlled the pace, avoiding mistakes and ending the game 21-19.
Minh (World No 17) had earlier defeated Chou (World No 22) twice in face-to-face contests.
This is the second consecutive time Minh has taken the trophy of the US Open Badminton Championship – part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grand Prix Gold Series.
