DA NANG (VNS) – More than 58,100 households with over 245,200 people in the central city of Da Nang will be evacuated in case of a super storm following the city’s plan on natural disaster prevention and control.
The scenario, which was approved by the city’s People’s Committee on Thursday, is designed to help local residents brace for strong storms; typhoons, floods; flash floods, reservoir breaks and tsunamis.
Since 1998, disasters have killed 219 people in the city and injured 226 others, with more than 138,000 houses damaged. Total losses are estimated at nearly VND10 trillion (US$476 million). – VNS
