A 221-year-old citadel in central Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province will be turned into a pedestrian area at certain times to enhance its appeal to tourists.
The provincial People’s Committee recently decided to relocate the administrative and military agencies and schools out of the Dien Khanh Citadel.
Following the relocation, the area will be home to complexes offering tourism and urban services.
The complexes must not exceed a height of 14 meters.
The inner area of the citadel will become a pedestrian area at certain times during the day.
The citadel will also be restored, and the walls will feature observation points for sightseeing.
Dien Khanh Citadel was built in 1793 under the rule of the Nguyen Lords, who were predecessors of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) – the country’s last monarchy.
The fortress was named a national historical relic in 1988.
