PANO – Typhoon Kalmaegi’s heavy rains damaged over 800 houses, inundated hundreds of hectares of rice paddy fields and crops, and broke some roads in Vietnam’s northern localities.

On September 18th, units of Military Zones 1 and 2 mobilized nearly 9,000 troops and militiamen, and over 200 vehicles in different kinds to swiftly arrive in the typhoon-hit areas to support locals to overcome the storm aftermath, clear landslides along roads, conduct search and rescue, and evacuate victims to safe sites.

The same day, the Vietnam Red Cross gave VND 3 million to each of eight families with human losses during the typhoon in Lang Son province.

Previously, the province’s Red Cross visited and granted VND 2 million to each of the victims’ families.

According to the Central Steering Committee on Flood and Storm Prevention, at least 11 people were killed and 10 injured in the consequences of the typhoon passing through the northern and central provinces over the last four days.
