Vietnam and Australia boost defence cooperation

PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, on September 26th received Australian Vice Admiral Timothy William Barrett, Australian Chief of Navy.

At the reception, the guest briefed the host on the results of defence cooperation between the two naval forces, and believed that their defence ties would obtain more achievements in the time to come.



The host highly spoke of the positive developments of the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Australia over the past years. He also urged the two navies to continuously strengthen defence cooperation, contributing to building trust and mutual understanding between the two armies.


On the same day, Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Minister of the National Defence Ministry cum Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy, met with the Australian Vice Admiral in Ho Chi Minh City.


At the meeting, Admiral Hien proposed measures for the two navies’ cooperation in the coming time, such as promoting delegation exchanges at all levels, training courses for Vietnamese naval officers and submarine rescue operations, and enhancing the capability of naval air force.
