General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong said Viet Nam attached great importance to developing and expanding its multi-faceted co-operation with Myanmar.
Meeting with Speaker of the Assembly of the Union of Myanmar Thura U Shwe Mann in Ha Noi on Saturday, the Party chief expressed hope that the two sides would promote their partnership in all fields, from politics and economics, to culture and people-to-people exchanges.
The CPV was willing to share its experience on Party building, economic development and state management with the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) of Myanmar, he said.
He said he wished the relationship between the two Parties and States would develop for the benefit of both peoples as well as for peace and stability in the Southeast Asian region and the world.
For his part, Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann spoke highly of the collaboration between the CPV and the USDP, expressing hope that the two parties would strengthen their relations through exchanges of delegations and experience sharing.
He said he hoped Viet Nam would continue to be an important partner to Myanmar, especially in the fields of economics, culture and people-to-people exchange, in order to boost the comprehensive co-operation between the two nations.
Presidential audience
President Truong Tan Sang received Thura U Shwe Mann in Ha Noi on the same day, saying the latter’s ongoing visit would help deepen relations between the two countries.
The State leader expressed pleasure to see the guest again since his Myanmar visit in November 2012, asserting that the Vietnamese Party, State and people were willing to bolster multi-faceted co-operation with Myanmar .
President Sang congratulated Myanmar on its recent political, diplomatic and socio-economic achievements, as well as its successful assumption as the ASEAN Chair 2014.
He thanked the country for its valuable support to Viet Nam during the past struggle for national liberation as well as for backing its stance on the East Sea issue.
The President suggested the two nations strengthen measures to promote bilateral co-operation in various fields including finance and banking, agriculture, telecommunications, oil and gas, construction and real estate.
He said he hoped that Myanmar would continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to operate in the country.
Thura U Shwe Mann said Viet Nam and Myanmar shared a lot of similarities in terms of history, culture and geography, which were firm foundations for pushing their multi-faceted ties forward.
He noted that Viet Nam was currently the seventh largest investor in Myanmar, adding he wanted Vietnamese firms to continue injecting more money into the country.
He said that Myanmar treasured and wished to boost collaboration with Viet Nam for the peace and development of the region and the world at large.
Deeper ties
In his meeting with Vietnamese NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Myanmar’s parliamentary speaker expressed his wish to deepen ties between the Assembly of the Union of Myanmar and the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) in the fields of legislation, supervision and decision making on important national issues, as well as in ethnic-related affairs.
During the talks, both sides agreed to increase experience sharing between their agencies and parliamentarians to strengthen mutual understanding. The two parliament leaders also pledged to create favourable conditions for the two countries’ enterprises to invest and do business in each other’s country.
Thura U Shwe Mann proposed promoting economic co-operation, especially in agriculture, which is a strength of both countries.
He also suggested that Viet Nam share with Myanmar its experience in banking and trade development.
For his part, NA Chairman Hung spoke highly of the accomplishments Myanmar had made in developing its economy, and expanding foreign relations and partnerships, elevating the country’s position in the international arena.
He said he believed the friendship and co-operation between the two countries would be expanded to many fields, including education, agriculture, energy, communications, finance and banking, defence and security.
The visit of the Myanmar leader would contribute to ties between the two legislative bodies, and deepen the traditional friendship and co-operation between the two countries, Hung said.
Chairman Hung also invited U Shwe Mann to attend the 132nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union that is scheduled for 2015 in Ha Noi.
