PANO – Lieutenant General Mai Quang Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, on October 24th chaired a seminar, “Proactively coping with climate change in the army”, for army units in the South.

80 papers focused on the impacts of climate change on military and defence activities and the role of the army in coping with it. They pointed out shortcomings in carrying out the task and proposed measures to effectively deal with climate change in the time to come.

Having praised participating units’ ideas, the general asked them to promote dissemination and education to raise troops’ awareness of and responsibilities for environmental protection and climate change adaptation, as well as effectively carry out resolutions and documents on strengthening environmental protection and search and rescue.
