A man from Dak Lak Province plunged onto a riverbank while attempting to cross by cable.

Nguyen Chua tried to use a cable to cross a river in Hoa Le Commune on his way to work on October 26, but the contraption dislocated at a high speed. Chua fell from the height of 10 metres, first falling onto a tree and then into a river.

Although locals made efforts to take Chua to hospital for treatment, he was pronounced dead on arrival. Chua’s wife was injured in a similar accident on August 15.

Local officials have been trying to organise a fund to build a bridge to prevent similar accidents by local residents attempting to cross the river from happening, however the funds have not been approved.

Nguyen Minh Son,vice chairman of Hoa Le Commune People’s Committee, said there are many coffee fields in the region, making it necessary for locals to cross the river. The coffee harvest season is the time when such travel is most necessary.
