A three-month-old girl and her 65-year-old grandmother were killed instantly when a car driven by a learner crashed into them in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak Monday evening.
Eight others, including a three-year old boy, were severely injured, Dak Lak police told Thanh Nien News.
Luu Thi Thanh Tuyen was driving a seven-seater belonging to a local driving school when she allegedly lost control near the busy market of Ea D’rang in Ea H’leo District and crashed into four motorbikes traveling in front.
The car then climbed onto the pavement, bulldozing a fruit stall and only stopping after crashing into some people there.
Infant Quach Thi Bao Tran and Pham Thi Len, who was carrying her, were crushed to death.
Four shoppers at the fruit stall — three-year-old boy Tran Quach Dinh Tri, his mother Quach Thi My Hanh, and two others — were badly injured and rushed to a local hospital.
Doctors at the Buon Ma Thuot town general hospital said Vu The Bach, 16, one of the injured, is in critical condition and has been transferred to the provincial hospital.
“Bach’s skull is fractured and his brain has a severe congestion,” Dr Hoang Dung said.
Four people on the motorbikes were given first aid at the hospital for slight injures.
There were four others in the car with Tuyen but it is not known if there was a trainer among them.
Police cordoned off the scene of the accident for investigation.
