22nd APEC Summit promotes comprehensive connectivity

(VOV) -The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders have hailed the accomplishments APEC members have achieved in reinforcing connectivity cooperation and infrastructure development.


On November 11, the APEC leaders continued their discussion on strengthening comprehensive connectivity and infrastructure development with a stress laid on the importance of enhancing comprehensive connectivity for economic growth, maritime and aviation connectivity, cooperation and mutual support, andpromoting prosperity and community spirit in the Asia-Pacific region.



They acknowledged the efforts of member economies in boosting the public-private partnership (PPP) for infrastructure development through initiatives within the APEC forum.


Speaking at the session, President Truong Tan Sang highlighted the outstanding achievements of APEC for more than two decades on the formation of a cooperative network and wide-ranging linkages from the sub-regional level to the Asia – Pacific region at large.


President welcomed and supported the overall APEC connection plan for the period 2015-2025 and important decisions to strengthen connectivity, especially infrastructure development among APEC members. He agreed upon the need to mobilize financial resources and necessary technical assistance through transparent cooperation mechanisms for development goals.


For a comprehensive regional connectivity, Sangsuggested members should focus on cooperation to cope with global challenges, support capacity building for developing members, increase education and training, and PPP cooperation, and enhance the indispensable role of businesses.


Shortly thereafter, the APEC leaders continued the second plenary session on developing innovation, reform and economic growth. They emphasized the prospects for mutual prosperity of APEC will depend on creative development, economic reform and growth in the region, and the Asia-Pacific region is in the key period of the economic model transformation process.


President Sang affirmed Vietnam welcomes and supports the APEC roadmap for food security 2020 as food security is one of the challenges of humankind in the 21st century.


Accordingly, Sang called on the countries to pay greater attention to food security and water resource security, technological application in agriculture towards environmentally friendly products and trade facilitation and promotion to ensure people’s easier access to food.
