Bruneian commander receives Vietnamese Rear Admiral

PANO – Major General Dato Tawih, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on November 20th received Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Kiem, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People’s Navy who is leading the two frigates, the HQ-011 and the HQ-012 to visit Brunei.

Addressing the reception at the Brunei Ministry of Defence’s headquarters in Brunei’s capital city of Bandar Seri Bagawan, Major General Dato Tawih held that this first visit of the Vietnamese naval ships is a lively symbol of the increasingly developing ties between the two armies, including the navies.



The Bruneian General also hailed Vietnam’s active contributions to ASEAN’s activities and highlighted its initiatives and fulfilment of committments within the framework of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+) and the ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting.


On behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Kiem thanked the host for a warm welcome and hoped that the visit would contribute to enhancing the friendship and mutual understanding between the two armies and the two peoples.


The frigates left Brunei for the Philippines on the morning of November 21st.


Before Brunei, the Vietnamese frigates had visited Indonesia.
