HA NOI (VNS) – All 50 officials holding positions elected or approved by the National Assembly passed the second vote of confidence conducted by NA deputies on Saturday.

Deputies expressed “high confidence”, “confidence”, and “low confidence” in the officials, including the President and Vice President, the NA Chairman and Vice Chairpersons, the Prime Minister, cabinet members and the Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court.

President Truong Tan Sang got 380 high confidence votes (accounting for 76.46 per cent of total NA deputies), 84 confidence votes (16.9 per cent) and 20 low confidence votes (4.02 per cent).

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung: 340 (68.41 per cent); 93 (18.71 per cent); 52 (10.46 percent).

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung: 320 (64.39 percent); 96 (19.32 percent); 68 (13.68 percent).

Vice Chairman of the NA Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children Le Nhu Tien told the Vietnam News Agency on the sidelines of the NA session that the voting would have a huge impact and would serve as a warning. Those who received low confidence votes would have to review their work.

He said NA deputies had received information regarding the 50 key positions from different channels such as meetings with voters and reports to assess whether they had fulfilled their roles.

Last year, all 47 officials passed the first ever vote of confidence during the 13th legislature’s fifth session in Ha Noi. The vote was held as part of changes to bring greater accountability to the Government.

The officials’ reports on their performance and results during their time in office, together with opinions and recommendations from voters nationwide, were among the factors taken into account before the vote.

Also the same day, deputies discussed the draft law on the election of deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils, and revisions to the Law on Special Consumption and other tax laws. – VNS
