Overcoming thousands of works by numerous photographers all over the country, the work “the scenic spot of Da Dia Reef” by Huynh Le Vien Duy has won the first prize for the item of panorama at the artistic photography contest held by VnExpress in coordination with the Ministry of Culture-Sports-Tourism. Phu Yen Newspaper held this talk with the photographer Huynh Le Vien Duy.

* Congratulations on you yourself and the work of “The Scenic spot of Da Dia reef”, which won the first prize at such a competitive contest as “Artistic photography contest VnExpress 2014″.
– I am indeed so much joyful when my name and the work was announced being the first prize winner of the panorama item. As the Artistic photography contest VnExpress 2014 is a national level one, attracting lots of professional photographers all over the country, with more than 30,000 works. Apart from the work “the scenic spot of Da Dia Reef”, I also took a photo of Song Hinh hydro-electric reservoir, and this work was also in the shortlist.
* The 30 photos in the shortlist are all about Vietnam scenic spots and professionally, particularly taken. What is the special trait in the “Scenic spot of Da Dia Reef”?
– One of the contest’s criteria is brand new idea and creative point. I do think “the scenic spot of Da Dia Reef” has met these criteria.
* It must have been a hard-working and attentive duration of preparations for such a work as “the scenic spot of Da Dia Reef”, mustn’t it?
– I do not vividly remember how long it took and how many points were chosen and decided as completing this work. Every weekend, from HCMCity, where I am working now, I come to my hometown to take panorama pictures. The work “The scenic spot of Da Dia Reef” was composed on a special occasion, too. That was when I was taking days off work, “waiting” from early in the morning to take pictures of sunrise at Da Dia Reef. Normally, I take with wide lense cameras, but that time, I borrowed the fisheye lense camera from a friend’s, and did choose the right corner and Da Dia Reef appeared exactly like Vietnam map. I was so excited, joyful taking the photo. The feeling is somewhat like when my name was announced to be the prize-winner.
* There are numerous scenic spots in Phu Yen, so, what targets did you set for yourself when entering this contest?
– First of all is to satisfy my passion. The target I headed towards is taking all scenic spots in the homeland of Phu Yen province from my own point, so as to advertise the image, the land and the people of Phu Yen to friends, via photos. I do think this is also a great way to let everybody recognize the charming beauty of this central province.
* Have you got any intentions to make photographic collections about the homeland’s scenic spots?
– I am sparing time for that target. There will be photo collections about the sea, islands, forests and scenic spots. Phu Yen does not lack scenic spots, I only fear that I do not possess the right and sufficient efforts to compose, and this is not only an issue for me myself but also an issue among a majority of photographers. With the great passion in photography, I believe I need have photo collections, sets of photos about my homeland. Failing to do this means a sorrow from me towards my fatherland.
