The late Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Cong Tan
(VOVworld) – A State-level funeral was held on Saturday morning in Hanoi for former Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Cong Tan, who passed away on November 1 at the age of 80. Party and State leaders at central and local levels, representatives of foreign missions and organizations were present at the funeral to commemorate the former leader.
Nguyen Cong Tan was born on February 6th, 1935 in Thai Binh province. Before his position as Deputy Prime Minister from 1997 to 2002, Tan served as a member of the Ha Noi Party Standing Committee in 1983 and deputy chairman of Ha Noi People’s Committee and deputy secretary of the city’s Party Committee in 1986. He was assigned to be Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry in 1987 and became the first Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development after the ministry was formed in 1995 by merging the ministries of agriculture, food industry, forestry and irrigation.
After retiring in 2002, he continued working in the agriculture sector and became the president of an association for small and medium-sized agriculture enterprises. He was conferred with the Independence Order, first class, the Labor Order, first class, and many other honorable awards.
