The Hanoitimes – Hanoi People’s Committee directed that departments, relevant agencies, People’s Committees of districts and cities have implemented the National Policy on preventing the harmful effects of alcohol abuse.
Previously, the Ministry of Health asked the People’s Committees of provinces and cities to set out investment plans , mobilize resources, allocate local budgets to implement the national policy on preventing and combating the harmful effects of alcohol abuse by 2020; and map out targets of prevention of harm of alcohol abuse into local socio-economic development plans.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health also directed that local agencies, organizations and associations have monitored the implementation of the policy, the implementation of the provisions of the law on prevention of the harmful effects of alcohol abuse, especially alcohol use behaviors such as beer and other alcoholic beverages among the youth, and strengthened the management of production and trading of local businesses.
The Ministry of Health has promoted information, education and communication to raise awareness of the public about the harmful effects of alcohol abuse, beer and other alcoholic beverages.
To implement the requirements of the Ministry of Health, the Hanoi Department of Health in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry and the departments, relevant agencies, organizations, people’s committees of districts and cities to enhance the implementation of the National Policy on prevention of the harmful effects of alcohol abuse which the Prime Minister issued.
Abuse of alcohol causes serious consequences for public health, social order and, and social security.
It also is one of the 10 leading causes of serious diseases worldwide such as cancer, heart disease, cirrhosis and psychosis, etc.
Costs of alcohol abuse also has created a burden for national economies and budget of many countries.
In Vietnam, the alcoholic consumption per person who ages over 15 reached 6.6 liters of pure alcohol in 2012, which is higher than the world’s average consumption. Beer consumption in Vietnam reached 3 billion liters per year.
