Continuing the programme from the 2014 investment promotion trip in Russia – Europe led by Mr Phung Quang Hung, Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People’s Committee, on November 17, Vinh Phuc’s investment promotion mission held working sessions with businesses and Vietnam Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, the mission worked with De Heus Group. This is a well-known corporation in the Netherlands established in 1911 and specialised in producing animal feed. Its operation was awarded the Crown by the Queen of the Netherlands. The current animal feed production by De Heus Group is about 4.6 million tonnes annually, of which about 2 million tonnes are the output of 8 plants in the Netherlands. De Heus Group has invested in four animal feed production plants in Vietnam, including the factory in Binh Xuyen Industrial Park of Vinh Phuc province with capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year, investment of US$30 million. It currently is under construction.
At the meeting, Mr Co De Heus, CEO of the group, thanked Vinh Phuc for creating favourable conditions in leasing land, implementing relevant administrative procedures to help the company in building animal feed production factory in the province; the construction is going on as scheduled and the plant is projected to be inaugurated by March 2015. During its operation, De Heus Group has always kept close with the provincial farmers, participating actively in the work of support, consultation and technology transfer to farmers in the production process; identifying farmers as partners for development.
The investment promotion mission also worked and visited research area and showroom of HortiKnowledgeCenter and Demokwekerij Westland Company; received and worked with teams led by the Director of Demokwekerij Westland and HortiKnowledgeCenter and Mr Henk van Eijk – Director of Kenlog BV. Demokwekerij Westland and HortiKnowledgeCenter founded in 2001 and works in agriculture. The main activity of the company is to coordinate and associate with companies specialized in manufacturing equipment, agricultural machinery, technical solutions – high-tech agricultural production processes. The showroom is where companies and scientists display equipment, agricultural machinery, high-tech agricultural production processes for ranchers and farmers to come study; it is also the place to connect manufacturers of agricultural machine and equipment to growers, bringing high technology into agriculture. The company is also directly involved in research activities, creating high-tech agricultural production processes, especially the greenhouse cultivation technology of agricultural products such as tulip and tomatoes, and supporting students in practising and researching agricultural production.
The company also has a centre of agricultural production knowledge, responsible for answering questions concerning farming, organizing short training courses on agricultural production techniques, holding visits for farmers to study models of tech applications in crop production. Currently, the company is working with Dong Thap province to build an experimental centre of high-tech agricultural production. Also in the visit, the investment promotion mission came to see agricultural equipment and machinery exhibited by enterprises; research area, experimental high-tech greenhouse production of tomato, flowers, and other crops.
Chairman Phung Quang Hung highly appreciated the development level of the high-tech agricultural production in the Netherlands as well as the operational model of the company. This is a form of encouraging agriculture conducted by private companies. At the meeting, Chairman Phung Quang Hung proposed Demokwekerij Westland and HortiKnowledgeCenter come to Vinh Phuc to survey, the province was willing to provide the company a large area with the highest incentives to support the company’s investment in high-tech agricultural production in the province Vinh Phuc or would assign provincial organizations and enterprises to joint with the company in the production. Based on that model, the farmers of the province would gradually approach high-tech agricultural production, creating a change in awareness and agricultural production methods in the province. The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development would make direct contact and work with the company to arrange a specific schedule for the two sides to conduct studies to agree on forms of suitable cooperation.
Earlier, the mission also visited and studied the model of dyke construction, some irrigation construction sites in the Netherlands for the purpose of research irrigation construction, especially the overall treatment of flooding in the province.
