The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the first month of 2015 decreased 0.2 percent against December, 2014 and a year-on-year increase of 0.94 percent, according to the General Statistics Office.

This is the lowest CPI rate recorded in January since 1998.


Three out of the 11 items calculated witnessed a decline in prices, including transport down 3.96 percent, housing, building materials, electricity, water and fuel down 1.09 percent, and the telecommunication group down 0.07 percent.


Restaurants and food services slightly rose 0.28 percent, much lower than the figures of 0.78 percent and 1.34 percent of the same period in 2014 and 2013, respectively.


The prices of food, foodstuff and outdoor dining saw increases of 0.03 percent, 0.42 percent and 0.11 percent, respectively.


Other groups posted slight rises in prices such as beverage and tobacco up 0.37 percent, garment and hats and footwear up 0.51 percent.


Among 63 provinces and cities nationwide, only the central city of Da Nang recorded the CPI rise, with 0.05 percent.


Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City experienced a CPI drop, 0.48 percent and 0.17 percent compared to the previous month, respectively.
