The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is working with the Malaysian side in a case relating to the recent rescue of 136 Vietnamese women from a nightclub in Kuala Lumpur. At a regular press conference of the Foreign Ministry in Hanoi on January 8, the Ministry’s Deputy Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang reported that the Ministry instructed the Embassy to promptly coordinate with relevant Malaysian agencies to verify the case as well as identifying those involved before bringing them home.

According to the Embassy, it received the list of the 136 women provided by Malaysian police and was assured that all the women have been sent to a social protection centre and they are in good health.

It said an Embassy representative will pay a consular visit to the women right after an appropriate time is arranged by the Malaysian Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development so as to protect them as best as possible.

Earlier, “New Straits Times” reported Malaysian police on January 3’s night freed 184 foreign women aged between 21 and 38 in a nightclub raid on P.Ramlee street in Kuala Lumpur. The women, including 136 from Vietnam, 17 from the Philippines, 17 from Uzbekistan, four from Indonesia, four from Thailand, four from Armenia, and two from Russia, were suspected of being victims of a human trafficking ring.
