HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications in HCM City, in collaboration with Le Group of Companies’ Le Digital, yesterday opened telephone-information kiosks to provide public telecommunication services, news and information consultancy for the public and tourists.

The HCM City People’s Committee approved the kiosk programme.

Le Quoc Cuong, deputy director of Department of Information and Communications, said the kiosks were part of a programme to develop telecommunication infrastructure in the city by 2020.

The kiosks would also provide information on cultural and social activities for local people accessed digitally on kiosk screens.

Huynh Quang Liem, director of VNPT HCM City, said the phone system used in the 90s served its purpose but should be replaced because there would be a strong development of telecommunication and mobile phones.

Four boxes would be installed for trial at locations, including at the front of the Opera House, post office, Youth Cultural House, and on Le Loi Street in District 1.

There would be a multi-point 47-inch touch screen in the centre of the kiosk stand, with Android software.

The kiosks would include Google maps automated with GPS which can help users find addresses, directions, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and shopping centres.

Other necessary information would be shown on the screen such as cultural activities, the city’s outstanding events and promotions. — VNS
