Special watches manufactured by Candino of Switzerland with the national flag of Vietnam at the 12 o’clock, the inscription “Hoang Sa & Truong Sa belong to Vietnam” in the centre and a map of Vietnam with the archipelagos of Hoang Sa (Paracel), Truong Sa (Spratly) and Phu Quoc on the back were introduced to the public in Ho Chi Minh City on January 17th.

The idea of making such a special watch was initiated in 2012 by businessman Bui Tan Minh, born in 1980. Minh is the director of Hai Minh Import-Export Company specialized in distributing world’s high-class watches in Vietnam. Minh said that Hoang Sa, Truong Sa belong to Vietnam. That short and clear-cut message is what each Vietnamese wishes to send to their friends all over the world.

Minh had painstakingly persuaded his partner to produce this special watch.

He held that he was lucky to partner with Candino whose staff understand and love Vietnam. Swiss friends backed Vietnam in protecting its territorial integrity with what they have, including techniques, and above all their kind hearts.

The design of this watch was selected from nearly 30 designs thanks to its simplicity and clear message on the Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

Candino has produced a batch of 1,888 such special watches, including 1,500 watches, numbered from 389 to 1,888 for men and 388 watches, numbered from 1 to 388 for women.

The number 1,888 as Minh explained is the year the wooden blocks of the Nguyen dynasty recording the history of the Nguyen Dynasty from King Gia Long were completed. The wooden blocks, recognized as the world documentary heritage by UNESCO, record the Nguyen Dynasty’s exercise of sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, an important and undeniable evidence of Vietnam’s sovereignty over these two archipelagos.

Earlier, Hai Minh Company twice cooperated with Candino to produce 1,000 watches marking 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi (2010) and 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Switzerland diplomatic ties (2011).
