The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) voted in 306 new members to its Central Committee during a three-day congress that ended on February 1, bringing the total to 545 members.
Speaking at a press briefing after the congress, CPP Spokesperson Khieu Kanharith said that 88 percent of the newly-elected members are under 50.
According to the congress statement, the supplementary election aimed to build up the party in all fields by improving its leadership.
The congress showed full support of the fifth-tenure Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, in carrying out its political creed and the third phase of the development quadrangular strategy, which has brought about significant results, including the maintenance of peace, political stability, and economic growth.
Participants agreed to speed up reforms, considering reform the most important task to the destiny of the country and the CPP as well.
They also vowed to help accelerate the implementation of the July 22, 2014 agreement between the CPP and the Cambodia National Rescue Party.-VNA
