PANO – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan on February 9th asked the Department of Ethnic Culture to team up with relevant organs to assess, develop and list cultural values sinking into oblivion to set clear targets so as to preserve each genre of culture.
The request was made in Hanoi at a seminar gathering village patriarches, artisans and prestigious people from the five ethnic minority groups of Si La, Pu Peo, Ro Mam, Brau and O Du with a population of below 1,000.
The Minister said that the policy on developing ethnic culture is specific; however, it needs to be promptly carried out.
At the event, representatives from the groups expressed difficult life of each group and suggested more attention and investment in the preservation of ethnic cultures, an important task.
According to Assoc. Prof., Dr. Le Ngoc Thang, from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Managing Official Training School, the threat of reducing population in ethnic minority groups is growing. Moreover, the number of ethnic minority youths with little knowledge of their groups’ folk songs and dances is also increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in and develop the cultures of the five ethnic minority groups with a population of less than 1,000.
The seminar also heard constructive opinions of delegates, including the close combination of family and society in equipping ethnic minority youths with the groups’ cultural traditions, scripts, and languages.
As part of the two-day seminar, delegates visited the Culture-Tourism Village of Ethnic Minority Groups of Vietnam, and the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site in the Presidential Palace.
