The Malaysian government on January 29th has officially declared the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 as an ‘accident’ and says there were no survivors. Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Director-General, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman instead of the Malaysian government, said that it was “with the heaviest heart and deepest sorrow that we officially declare Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 an accident”. “All 239 of the passengers and crew onboard MH370 are presumed to have lost their lives”, he added. However, Mr. Azharuddin Abdul Rahman affirmed that the search for this missing aircraft will continue with the support of China and Australia. The search for the missing Boeing 777, which has continued for 10 months now and has become the most expensive in aviation history, currently involves four vessels. An area of about 7,000 square miles of the sea floor has been scoured so far, Australia’s Joint Agency Coordination Centre said in a search update on Wednesday. The disappearance of MH370 is arguably the greatest mystery in the history of commercial flight, with an extensive search failing to turn up a single piece of definitive evidence of its whereabouts. MH370 vanished on March 8th, after leaving Kuala Lumpur with 239 people on board, including six Australians./. |
