In the morning of February 10, 2015, in Hanoi, taking place a ceremony to sign Memorandum of Understanding between GE Hitachi Cooperation and Department of and Nuclear and Radiation Safety. Director Mr. Vuong Huu Tan, and Mr. David Durham, vice president of GE Hitachi Cooperation signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Attending the signing ceremony, there were Mr. Hoang Xuan Hoa, Technical Director of GE Hitachi Cooperation; Mr. Douglas O’Neil, representing US Embassy in Vietnam; representatives of Department leaders and units of the Department. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Vuong Huu Tan said this was a major event on nuclear cooperation between Vietnam and the United States after the 123 Agreement was signed. In recent years, cooperation between the two countries in this field has remarkable results; the United States supported Vietnam in developing a legal framework, human resource training and capacity building for nuclear safety and security. The Director stressed that Vietnam is deploying the first nuclear power plant, a nuclear regulatory agency, the Department would like to receive the cooperation and support from the international partners in strengthening capacity to carry out the roles and responsibilities of its national nuclear power program. Memorandum of Understanding was signed to create the legal basis for cooperation between the Department and GE Hitachi Cooperation to promote further cooperation in the future. According to signed Memorandum of Understanding, GE Hitachi Cooperation will support the Department in sharing practical experiences in the field of analysis of nuclear safety using the simulation code advanced calculations, providing training courses on reactor technology and other related issues in order to improve the analysis and evaluation of nuclear safety for Department’s officers. |
