VGP – The PM has approved Viet Nam’s participation in the Global monitoring plan on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Asia, which is sponsored by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) through a non-refundable aid of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment was assigned to launch the project.
The project with the aim of encouraging Viet Nam to fulfill its missions in the Stockhom Convention on POPs, includes five main components of establishing action plans and inventorying new POPs, checking old POPs and evaluating the management of POPs in Viet Nam.
The Stockholm Convention on POPs is an international environmental treaty, signed in 2001 and effective from May 2004, that aims to eliminate or restrict the production and use of POPs.
