The Vietnam national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) on March 10 announced that it will halt operations of incoming and outgoing flights to Pleiku City in the central highlands province of Gia Lai for seven months as Pleiku Airport will be temporarily closed for expansion.

Accordingly, passengers who have bought tickets for incoming and outgoing flights to Pleiku City from March 15 to October 25 will be refunded for free or switched to flights to Buon Ma Thuot City or Quy Nhon City with possible extra charges because of fare and tax differences.

At the same time, in order to serve passengers who want to go to or leave Pleiku City, the carrier has planned to add 10 more flights to/from Quy Nhon City per week so that passengers can continue to travel to Pleiku from Quy Nhon by land.

In particular, since the beginning of April, VNA will increase seven more flights per week on route between Ho Chi Minh City and Quy Nhon City and three more flights per week on route between Ha Noi City and Quy Nhon City beside regular flight schedule.

Earlier, flights from Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City between December 1, 2014 and March 28, 2015 have been changed to daytime in compliance with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam’s decision to discontinue the use of the airfield lighting system at Pleiku Airport.
