Vietnam’s coach Toshiya Miura was unhappy with the national Under-23 team even though it defeated Indonesia 1-0 in a friendly match in Hanoi on Monday.

“I am still not happy with the team. We had a not so bad start but then our defenders lost the ball for so many times, leading to chaos in the whole game plan,” the Japanese coach said at a press briefing after the match.

More than 20,000 spectators were attracted to the My Dinh Stadium despite drizzly weather.

The slippery surface hindered Vietnam’s techniques in the first minutes before they turned to using long passes from both sides.

In the 75th minute, Huy Toan scored the only goal for Vietnam after receiving a pass from Huu Dung.

Cong Phuong was sent to the field in the second half but the famed striker did not have any dangerous shot on target.

Miura said his players performed better in the second half.

“It’s normal for me to have Cong Phuong on the bench because we are testing the team and yet to decide who will be key players,” he said.

However, he is still concerned with the team’s “instability” in controlling the match.

“We are moving to Ho Chi Minh City on March 11 and still have time for correction,” he said, noting that the team is aiming at the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship.
