PANO – A high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam Ministry of National Defence, led by Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, had a business trip from March 2nd to 4th to the Central African Republic and the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
The visit aims to conduct the pre-delivery survey of the country and prepare for the dispatch of Vietnam’s two staff officers (SO) and one contingent-owned equipment staff officer (COE SO) to MINUSCA in April 2015. The visit also targets to study the conditions for the establishment of a level-two field hospital and an engineer company at MINUSCA in the coming time.

The delegation worked with high-ranking officials of MINUSCA and chief of functional departments at the mission, especially Babacar Gaye, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of Mission, and Michelle Hanrahan, Head Mission Support (logistics, technical and financial support) of MINUSCA.
Mr. Gaye spoke highly of the visit of the delegation and believed that the visit would provide a more practical background for the preparation of Vietnam to send forces to the mission in the Central African Republic.
He highly appreciated Vietnam’s participation in the UN peacekeeping operations in general and in MINUSCA in particular, and promised to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese forces to complete their missions in MINUSCA in the coming time.
During the visit, the Vietnamese officer paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister of the Central African Republic Mahamat Kamoun and Defence Minister Marie Noelle Koyara. The country’s leaders spoke highly of the visit and believed that the participation of Vietnam in the UN peacekeeping operations would further promote the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
“With the experience of the Vietnam People’s Army, Vietnam will actively contribute to the peacekeeping operations of MINUSCA, contributing to reconstructing the country,” Prime Minister Mahamat Kamoun stressed. He also wished to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in agriculture, mineral exploitation, etc.
For his part, the Vietnamese officer extended the greetings from Vietnam’s Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh to the Prime Minister and Defence Minister of the Central African Republic and confirmed the development of the bilateral cooperation, including defence ties in the time to come.
