PANO – Youths in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Dong Nai province were enlisted to army units in the first enlistment drive of this year, on March 6th.
* In Ho Chi Minh City, General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence, gave flowers and encouragement to youths doing the national service in Hoc Mon district.
In this drive, the city’s districts sent 2,000 new recruits to units under the Ministry of National Defence and Military Zone 7.
After the hand-over ceremony, the Minister and leaders of Ho Chi Minh City offered incense to martyrs at the Giong T-junction Relic Site in Hoc Mon district.
* Meanwhile, Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, joined a ceremony to hand over 125 selected youths for the national service in Dan Phuong district, Hanoi.
Among them, 54 are graduates of universities and colleges.
* The same day, six districts of Dong Nai province finished handing over their youths to army units. Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Minister of National Defence, attended a ceremony in Long Thanh district.
Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Nam, Commander of the provincial Military Command, said that Dong Nai handed over 1,400 recruits to Military Zone 7, the Vietnam People’s Navy and Artillery Arm.
Notably, 18 per cent of them are graduates of universities, colleges or vocational schools, while 6.4 per cent are members of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
