Thirty finalists competed in topics about family, friends, school, pets and favorite activities. First prize winner in the category for second and third graders went to Thai Pham Khanh Tam of Le Quy Don Elementary School. Huynh Ngoc Minh Khue from Nguyen Du Elementary School won first prize in the category for fourth and fifth graders. The value of first prize is VND18 million, including a one-year scholarship to learn English at Aston Can Tho.

The organizer also granted one second prize, one third prize and five other consolation prizes in each category. The total prize money in the contest was VND160 million.

Can Tho’s elementary school children have a good command of English, Jean Pierre Guill, general manager of Aston Vietnam, told the Daily. So “we need to create more learning opportunities for these kids to further improve their English.”

Aston expects to open a branch in Ca Mau Province and another in Long Xuyen of An Giang Province or Rach Gia of Kien Giang Province in the next two years. This year’s contest attracted 970 school children to compete. Its goal was to create an environment for children in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City to learn English.

According to Tran Van Thieu, head of the education and training office of Ninh Kieu District, there is a large demand for learning English among children in Can Tho.

Aston Can Tho is the first foreign language center in the Mekong Delta to hold an English speaking contest.

Aston opened its branch in Can Tho last June with various programs meeting Cambridge standards for children and teenagers, including Starters, Movers, Flyers, PET, and KET.

Aston Vietnam was established in late 2005. Prior to the establishment of the Can Tho branch, Aston Vietnam had opened five centers in HCMC and Haiphong. Aston Education Group has been present in Asia for 19 years with 150 centers.
