The US Department of Commerce (DOC) announced its preliminary results of the 9th period of review (POR9) on antidumping duties on frozen warmwater from Vietnam according to which the average tariff dropped to below 1 percent from 6.37 percent imposed in the POR8.

Among 56 fishery companies under the review, only Sao Ta Foods Joint Stock Company (Fimex VN) was granted zero tax. Four companies were imposed above 1 percent of tax, including Minh Phu Seafood Corp (1.5 percent) and Thuan Phuoc Corp, Frozen Seafood Company No. 32 and My Son Seafood Company, all levied 1.06 percent. The rest was subjected to 0.93 percent.

These are only the preliminary results, and the final results will be announced by the DOC in September this year. However, before the final result, the rate of POR8 will still be applied. An official from Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) said, this is good news for those firms that will export their products to the US although the antidumping imposition on Vietnamese shrimp is totally preposterous. VASEP will continue to request DOC to waive this.
